I'm sure most people are sensible enough to know where to draw the line with what touching is and isn't ok, but it doesn't hurt to just clarify that there is a line that can't be crossed. Apparently at one con, some girl decided it was totally ok to put her hand down the back of the guests pantsThankfully people like that are few and far between, but they do show up at cons on occasion.
Not sure how that could be misconstrued given the bits I've bolded, but anyway...

I'm not saying that we definitely won't have that, because that would just be foolish on my part, but I think we still need to approach this with an open mind and a sense of optimism.
As Mallie has already said, the majority of the fan girls and boys on this forum have yet to display a reaction of that sort [or, particularly, the one suggested by The Hub of hugging, kissing, glomping and whatever], and even if they had, we need to remember one thing:
It's talk. People talk themselves up. It happens more often than you'd think.
I mean, one only needs to read the several "RPatz love" threads here on Fire and Ice to see the reaction we all joke about and suggest we'd have. But, when reality is factored in, the majority of us will mind blank, stare, gape, or lose all daring which would make us do something that foolish. and those that don't? Well, we'll just have to hope that they can keep enough of their wits about them to not do something so stupid. Like scratch their necks until they bleed then show it to the cast. Or suddenly become fluent in crazy.
Yeah, we're going to have screaming fangirls at any twilight event. It's all part of being in a fandom, particularly one that caters to the range of ages, like Twilight does.
The only thing I can really say about it is just to suck it up and deal with it. Not kind, I know, but if you elect to go to a gathering of fangirls, screaming and fangirling are inevitable. When it comes right down to it, it was your choice to go, thus you must live with the consequences.
[[Plus, let's face it: If RPatz were coming, you know we'd all be doing the same thing.]]

Have to say I'm with Dana on this one. It's pretty obvious that she's saying that these people only pop up once in a blue moon.Bec wrote:Marrajane -- perhaps. Ok, I wasn't generalizing. I was saying that there are hundreds of 12-16 yr old girls that are in what they think is love with Taylor. I'm not basing my judgements on US reactions, cause, honestly, I actually haven't read anything about or seen anything about their reactions. I couldn't give a rat's arse about reading about how US teenies act, no offence to those who do. All I'm saying is, I know how SOME girls are, and there is no doubt that the con will be swimming with them. And the reason I singled out Taylor is because a lot of the younger girls don't have the same emotions towards Edi and Nikki.
I never said anything about the inappropriate behaviour and never implied that anyone would have said behaviour. I was specifically referring to the over-the-top screaming.
And I was fully aware that that was what I was signing up for. All I was saying was that that is going to be the only bad thing about this convention for me and all of us mature enough to have a slightly more dignified reaction.
