Marrajane -- perhaps. But I don't think we can generalise the fan reactions just yet and make the assumption of their actions which, lets face it, are based upon our own prejudices as well as our observations of the reactions of the US fanbase.
I'm not saying that we definitely won't have that, because that would just be foolish on my part, but I think we still need to approach this with an open mind and a sense of optimism.
As Mallie has already said, the majority of the fan girls and boys on this forum have yet to display a reaction of that sort [or, particularly, the one suggested by The Hub of hugging, kissing, glomping and whatever], and even if they had, we need to remember one thing:
It's talk. People talk themselves up. It happens more often than you'd think.
I mean, one only needs to read the several "RPatz love" threads here on Fire and Ice to see the reaction we all joke about and suggest we'd have. But, when reality is factored in, the majority of us will mind blank, stare, gape, or lose all daring which would make us do something that foolish. and those that don't? Well, we'll just have to hope that they can keep enough of their wits about them to not do something so stupid. Like scratch their necks until they bleed then show it to the cast. Or suddenly become fluent in crazy.
Yeah, we're going to have screaming fangirls at any twilight event. It's all part of being in a fandom, particularly one that caters to the range of ages, like Twilight does.
The only thing I can really say about it is just to suck it up and deal with it. Not kind, I know, but if you elect to go to a gathering of fangirls, screaming and fangirling are inevitable. When it comes right down to it, it was your choice to go, thus you must live with the consequences.
[[Plus, let's face it: If RPatz were coming, you know we'd all be doing the same thing.]]
Fallen_Angel -- Have to say, I haven't heard of the "hand down the pants" thing, but I think more what Mallie is getting at is that just because there are a few stupid, insane and inappropriate fangirls out there does NOT mean one can generalise and pigeon-hole all fangirls into it.
And I'm fairly certain this is a discussion that's been had over in "The Movie" thread, particularly in "A little... too obsessed?". Just because some fangirls are fluent in crazy doesn't mean every one of them is.
And just because ONE Australian has done something foolish doesn't mean we can pin it on the rest of the Aussie fanbase.
I mean, if you start doing that, you might as well start making other generalisations like "well, one person in the shire is racist, therefore everyone there is". Or "I've seen a fat American, therefore everyone there is obese".
See my point?
How many times have you heard someone say if I had money I'd do things my way but little they know that it's so hard to find one rich man in ten with a satisfied mind money can't buy back your youth when you're old a friend when you're lonely or peace to your soul; the wealthiest person is a pauper at times compared to the man with a satisfied mind when my life is over and my time has run out my friends and my loved ones I'll leave them no doubt but one things gone for certain when it comes my time I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind. - Jeff Buckley
